Combining a lightweight form, heavy-duty camera support, and easy handling, Zhiyun has created the CRANE 4 handheld gimbal stabilizer for independent filmmakers, camera operators, and enthusiasts who crave smooth footage without added bulk. The CRANE 4 improves on its predecessors with its longer arm length, stronger motors, extended quick-release plate to support more camera types, and an intelligent balance indicator to make precision balance even easier. Balance and Adjustment Design
The CRANE 4 can accommodate a long list of cameras, thanks to its longer arm and sturdy build. It can also balance smaller or larger cameras more easily using the balance indicator light that glows red when your camera is unbalanced, to remind you to recalibrate.
The extended quick-release plate has been redesigned to make it even easier to change your camera from portrait to landscape orientation. Each axis arm features a silicone sleeve to protect it from constant movement and the rigors of production, and a magnetic wrench stores in one axis for added convenience and quick adjustment.
Handling Features
The gimbal itself has been made more compact and has a solid grip to suit hands of any size. The buttons, front dial, joystick, and bright 1.22" color touchscreen are all placed strategically so your fingers don’t have to travel far to control gimbal motion, set time-lapse mode, or configure ISO, shutter, and aperture, among many other mode settings. There is even a built-in 3200 lux bi-color LED fill light on one axis to make sure your subject is evenly lit at all times.
The Combo kit includes the updated wrist rest that mounts on the base of the gimbal, and its smooth grip is comfortable for your hand and wrist, while adding leverage. The kit also includes the sling grip, which can be extended and adjusted to create two-handed mode on the side or back of the gimbal handle. And there’s a 1/4"-20 thread on the grip to add accessories, such as a monitor, extension arm, or an additional light.
Camera Control and Accessories
For a long list of select camera models, the CRANE 4 supports Bluetooth shutter control from the gimbal for photo or start/stop video recording, streamlining your rig to be fully wireless. But don't worry if your camera isn’t on that list―you can still control other camera models using a USB-C connection.
The CRANE 4 is compatible with the Zhiyun Transmount accessory ecosystem, including the follow focus and wireless transmitter systems, as well as numerous accessories and mounting options. You can run the gimbal for up to 12 hours using four 18650 batteries, making it a great choice for a long shooting day. The batteries charge in less than two hours and get you back out shooting for another full day.
